CalHOPE recognizes Josie Wolitzky for her perseverance, leadership, and mental resilience through repeated setbacks.
A redshirt junior defender from Parker, Colorado, Josie arrived at Cal Poly Humboldt in Fall 2021 and immediately made her presence felt, appearing in all 18 matches as a freshman. After a strong freshman season, she endured head trauma, a broken foot, knee injuries, and two medical redshirt seasons. Each injury tested her confidence and mental resilience.
Her comeback in fall 2025 was remarkable: team captain, defensive anchor, and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament Defensive MVP. She led Cal Poly Humboldt to its first-ever CCAA title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 29 years.
“Every injury made me question if I could keep going,” Josie shared. “I learned resilience by taking things one day at a time and leaning on my support system.”
